In the beginning there was Chaos, a calm nothingness that existed in a sense of everything. From the darkness sprouted forth a beginning. Through time and a hyper sense of evolution, Chaos, the nothingness, became an omnipotent being. A chilling presence in the cast darkness, one being that was truly not formed. Bored with the darkness, Chaos began to create in his need for uniqueness and color. The empty void of onyx began to break apart to yellow, violet, and blue stars that littered the shade, however it seemed like too much of a pattern. Enraged that his stars hadn’t satisfied his need for uniqueness, he began to create larger, denser stars and some that had shed triple the light along the darkness. Finally he came up with a way to break up the light and threw chunks of stone into the mix to form these little orb shapes. Things began to look how he had wished so he took his index and middle finger and smeared the paint along the lights and stone to make swirls of energy, or what we know today as a galaxy.
The canvas was stunning with all the different shades and variations of color, but still even with this contrast, Chaos was bored. Stretching forth his hand he looked over what was considered his body and a crooked smirk spread across his face. Yes, he was bored, and he was about to cure his boredom. Driving his hand into his body he grasped at what many would call a soul and pulled it out to split it into four pieces. One of which went back into himself and the rest he morphed into three beings, his children. The oldest child he named Scientia, meaning knowledge. The middle child was named Voluntas, meaning will and the youngest was named Amora, meaning love. The two oldest were his sons and the youngest his daughter. Each of his children had a specific set of traits and a different look ranging from feathered wings, to wings covered in membrane to a beauty of purity. Delighted in the difference of the beings he made from himself, he decided to further his entertainment with a task.
“From myself, I have created you. I grew bored with my blank canvas of an existence. With my boredom I craved for difference and thus I have made you. Scientia, your wings spread behind you with the wealth of the worlds you will rule over. Your knowledge will be the foundation of the task I am to give you as well as the light you hold partial to. For you all, I have created many rock planets for you to take your pick and use as your starting point. I wish for you and your brother to make beings that I can watch over and meddle with. Come up with a similar plan of action and go there. As my oldest, you will be the ruler over the expanse of my canvas, over your siblings and over these creations you will make me. Go, my child.”
With his purpose, Scientia went to the canvas and began his work. Next Chaos went to speak to his other son. “Voluntas, my second child, where your brother has feathers of emerald and balance of the authority given, I have blessed you with difference; your wings are of a membrane of skin and sturdy bones. Along your skull sit points that rise to my glory. Whereas your brother has a balance, you hold a partial to the darkness instead of the light; I fear this may lead you out of my will. My son, I give you the control over the seas and the sky. From this you could help create the beings, ones lesser than yourself, with your brother. This is the job I give the two of you. Go, my child and keep my interest.”
Voluntas was pleased with the gifts he was bestowed and did what was asked of him. Going to help his brother, he stood before the canvas as their eyes looked over their options of a starting point. Chaos moved along to his last child, his only daughter and smiled. “My darling Amora, I have made you with the purest intentions. I made you opposite of your brothers in appearance, heart and characteristics. Where your brothers bask in the light or darkness you will be the purity that lies between. Along your spine sprout wings of ice that hold a softness much like snow that will show the kindness that is your second nature. From you, I have given the control over nature and of birth. You will sprout glorious shades of greens and pastels along the world you all choose. From your love, you will have the necessary element in which these new beings will crave. Do not fret, my child, you will be a mother soon enough. Go, and support your brothers.”
Hearing all the blessings Amora was blessed with she rushed off to help aid her brothers with their endeavors. To much of her happiness both brothers agreed that she would be able to pick the planet in which they would set down their beings to have some sort of life. Pleased with this information she quickly rushed them off to go work on the beings as she looked at every galaxy in wonder of which would be the best choice for their soon to be people.
Time had elapsed as Scientia had started on his own project for his Father’s favor. Voluntas had used the sea to make a mass of orange soil that seemed to mold very easy to a skilled hand. He and his brother were at a loss to how to create such great beings for their Father, but that was a lie. Scientia had an idea but didn’t share it with Voluntas. With skill, Scientia had used his brothers’ material, clay, and began to make a mold of what he would soon call a human. During this time of trickery and underhandedness Scientia had managed to fall madly in love with his sister, Amora. From her womb she gave birth to seven children: Caritas, Castitas, Patientia, Humantitas, Industria, Temperantia, and Humilitas. The seven holy sacraments made up of purity and light. After Amora bore Scientia’s children, he seemed to lose interest in her and began to grow obsessed with his little project.
As the obsession continued on, Voluntas noticed Amora’s despair and lack of attention. He came to her at night and delighted in lust of her new womanly curves due to the child birth. Soon after she was once again bloated with children and she spoke of why Scientia had lost interest in her, something to do with a clay model he had made for the humans creation. With this knowledge of his brother’s treachery he started to sneak around at the early hours of the morning to catch him on a break. It wasn’t long before Amora’s pregnancy came to an end and she birthed Voluntas’ seven children. The children’s names were: Ira, Superbia, Invidia, Luxuria, Avantia, Gula and Acedia. The seven deadly sins made up of lust and darkness.
Time had passed on when the children grew and began to take on their attributes. One night, Scientia had finally left his workshop with a wide grin and Voluntas swept in like a shadow of the night. Seeing the mold he noticed that the qualities of his brother’s seven children were added into the clay model. Infuriated by the deceit of his older brother he began to question why his children were the only ones he used for such a thing. Why not make it from his children as well? The words of his father rang clear in his head. This was a project for all three of them, not just Scientia. Knowing that his brother was trying to swoop in and gain his father’s favor he grew mad with all the authority he was given. He ruled over the canvas! Over the humans that weren’t even made yet! And over him and his sister!
Out of spite, jealousy and rage he added his seven children’s qualities to the mold. It was only fair, right? With his little deal finished he left the workshop with a smirk and slipped out without a trace.
That night, Chaos grew weary of the time that had passed since he had given his project to his children. Seeing nothing but empty results he came down to the workshop and examined the mold. His knowing eyes saw the war between his two sons but chose to ignore it; Chaos pressed his hands to the malleable substance and combined an attachment of a soul into each model that would be made. Taking a step back he watched as the mold reformed around where his hands were and nodded to himself seeing that it would now work. He, as well, left the place.
Three days passed as the clay models finally took hold of the souls and soon the first human rose from the clay. Their skin held a peachy shade, hair spilled from their skull as a bright blonde and their blue eyes looked forward. One after another a couple of the humans began to rise from the mold and stand to the side. Female and male, most looked about the same. After a good batch of humans were created, it took no time at all before the siblings caught wind of it. Rushing to the workshop and throwing the door open they were greeted with their creations, though instead of joy they were filled with a great rage. The brothers noticed the flaw in the humans and sought to blame the other.
“You did this!” Scientia bellowed.
“We were supposed to do this together but you wanted Father’s favor!” Voluntas shot back.
“They are imperfect because of you!” The echo of both voices rang throughout the heavens.
Voluntas had enough of his brother downplaying him. Flexing his hand he felt the power that his father had given him course through his body and summoned a large scythe. Clad in the steel ore from one of the rock planets below it gleamed in the moment of glory as he charged forward swinging the sharp edge of the scythe in an upward arch.
Scientia did not have such power to summon a weapon but he had been able to forge one in his allotted time in the workshop. Lunging to the side, to narrowly miss the swipe of the scythe he skidded to a stop next to the sharpening wheel and pulled off a four sided spear. Unlike Voluntas’ weapon of steel, his was made of brass and decorated with precious emerald stones from the planet that Amora had taken a fondness to. Footsteps echoed towards his left as he twisted to the side throwing his weight into the spear as he swung it reckless into a parry of the oncoming death scythe.
Devastated by her brothers fighting, Amora rushed to her fourteen children and wanted to get them away from the oncoming destruction. As the battle raged on, she gathered her children up and sent them down to the planet she took interest in so they would be far away from their father’s unruliness.
With her children now out of harm’s way she hastily made her way back to her brothers. Trying desperately to calm them though they seemed too enthralled with their fight.
The sound of metal clashing on metal echoed along the halls of this once wondrous place. Along with the melody of screams ranging from Amora as she tried to gain their attention or their senses, it seemed they would never quit. Finally as their weapons came together in a hard strike they were forced to stumble back almost as a sign of a tie. Seeing this, Amora had enough of their foolishness and began to move between her brothers but they were unaware. Quickly pulling their blades back into their fighting stance they lunged forward and ended up getting Amora in the blood rage. A blood curling shriek echoed as the two different weapons pierced through her skin and into her lungs and heart.
Her life slipped away as the blades were pulled from her corpse to let fall towards the planet where their children were staying. Each element of her body separated, causing the bones to fall faster than the rest. One by one the bones of her body hit the rocky surface causing it to crack, indent and shift from where it once was. The rest of her body separated into ash and blood. The density of the ash lumbered towards the planet and fertilized the land like seed. Next the blood hit the atmosphere and divided into droplets to rain down along the surface and irrigate the seeds that were laid down. The earth began to suck up the blood and sprout forth trees and plants. Soon the craters filled up creating seas and lakes.
After Amora’s death the two brothers were stricken with grief and revenge. In their crazed frenzy both brothers fought until they died from exhaustion and blood lust.
As the battle came to a tragic end and the three of Chaos’ children seemed to meet a rather harsh conclusion, he pushed up from his seat, where he had watched the entire showing and sighed heavily with the crushing end. Shaking his head he couldn’t believe that after this entire time, they had ended up with the worse fate that was laid before them. His eyes swept over the destruction as he found himself fixed on two groups of figures. The humans and his grandchildren. Having a dastardly idea he decided to move the humans to this planet that Amora had wanted to call Earth. With both groups of his interest in front of him he rushed off the humans to go live among their rich planet.
Turning towards the grandchildren a smirk slipped along his features as he parted them to their designated sides as the sacraments and the sins. Chaos moved to stand in the middle of both lines of children. With the sacraments on the right and the sins on the left he swept the hand to that side along their chest pulling out their souls. Two masses of fourteen souls were held in each palm. Taking a step forward the children fell to the ground as they took on a transformation.
Chaos shoved the souls into the drenched clay below and forced the soil to create two more beings. Feeling the clay snap in place he yanked from the soil two men, that looked similar but different to what they once more. Holding both men by their necks Chaos smiled seeing his two sons again and turned to look at his pained grandchildren. As Voluntas and Scientia realized they had killed their sister and lover they were stricken with grief and stood stagnant awaiting their father’s judgment. Each of the children turn into a new being, a being that would be hunted by the humans for food and for hides. Morphing the children as if they were clay as well he watched as they were pushed into separate categories of new being, such as: reptiles, amphibians, birds, fish, arthropods, and mammals.
With the humans on their own planet now, and the children turned into the animals of the world for food, weapons and clothing, it seemed as if everything was set up. Now all Chaos had to do was play Father to his sons. The animals were now scattered as Chaos turned to place judgment on his son’s foolish behavior. “I gave you both a job to create a being that I could watch and meddle with. Instead you both wished to grant my favor? Due to your lack of competence you have killed your sister and I have taken away your children. As judgment to your cruel fate I will place you where I believe you will be fit.”
Turning to look at Voluntas he looked at his younger son and sighed that the darkness had overtaken him, just as he had warned. “You, my son, have fallen prey to the darkness, because of that I will have you cast down into the depths of the darkness I so hated and give you the flames of fury that had showed your sister during her final demise. You are to watch as others die around you, you harvest their pain and their sorrow but you cannot make it better. Be gone, to the underworld, you are now the ruler of your own personal haven.” With that he waved his hands causing flames to erupt along Voluntas’ lower half and drag him down to the pits of Hell.
With one son down he turned to look over at Scientia and shook his head. “As for you, my eldest son, I gave you the authority over all because you were to hold the balance of the light and darkness. You abused that aspect and because of that I am taking away your knowledge of good and evil. From now on you can judge others but only because you will have no other thought but for them to be pure. You will have no free will of your own and the only dreams you will have at night is your sister’s screams.” Not saying another word he waved off his eldest son causing a gust of wind to sweep him away towards the heavens.
As time commenced onwards the humans had seemed to be rather primitive with their way of living. Sure enough they had ways to kill the animals to cloth and feed themselves but they had no other ways of survival they were without other thought. Chaos saw that they had hit a rut in their life and shoved at Scientia to go make a visit. Sweeping down to earth with his massive wings of jade he landed in the clearing and watched as the humans crept out towards him. With a simplistic wave he gathered the items he wished to give them. Seeing that they were to be receiving gifts from one of their gods the humans moved forward in curiosity. The first thing Scientia had presented to them was apple seed. He told them it would sprout a beautiful tree that would help them gain the knowledge necessary to continue with a higher culture. Next he pulled from his pocket corn and spoke of how to plant it in moist soil and it would grow to give them plenty of food.
The humans were delighted in their new gifts from their sun god and danced to rejoice in his name. Chaos, seeing that the humans seemed pleased with such a thing decided to let Voluntas do the same. Since Scientia was the ruling God of the earth there was always sunshine. The moment Voluntas came above the depths of hell the sun seemed to shy away and its mirrored image stood high in the darkness causing the heat to fall away to a comforting coolness. He moved towards the humans and they recognized their death God and were quick to show respect. Voluntas gave them a fluid bow and handed his scythe towards the leader of their people and explained that this would help them reap their crops once they were ready for harvest. The other thing he had offered them was the knowledge of a proper burial. With their new gifts he had been pulled back to Hell causing the moon to fall away and the sun to shine in all its glory.
Chaos was almost pleased with everything but he noticed one thing he didn’t like. There was constant light along the surface of earth causing the waters to dry up and the plants to wither. Remembering when Voluntas had come to the surface how the sun was hidden away and the plants were able to cool off he grinned. Using the same concept he had before his three children had become so reckless, he had made Scientia the sun, or the day time, Amora the neutral in between, or rather sunset and sunrise, and Voluntas the chilling darkness that was soon called night. With the cycle of the day complete Chaos could finally sit back with boredom set aside and a smile along his face that he had finally something to watch and be amused.
