Milinia, a kingdom known for great magical strides. They were set up on a system of magical power. The strong were the noble, the weak were the peasants, but even the weak were able to live out a decent life within the kingdoms walls. None could infiltrate the city due to the magical barrier that surrounded it. The kingdom was known but only able to be seen with those with magical affinity. Due to the love of magic and alchemy within Milinia’s walls they had a research team that was directly under the King. They traveled the world looking at ruins, studying the magic of old, and the magical creatures they seemed to be an anomaly. There was a lab set up deep within the bottom of the castle, the lead team, the team that wanted their powers to keep growing as well as their knowledge.
As a young boy, Salem loved his kingdom. There was always magic about, merchants were jolly and would show children their little tricks. The kingdom even had a school for magic where you could learn the basic, understand how magic happens and learn the fundamentals of alchemy. It really was a glorious kingdom. Growing up Salem excelled with his magic thus allowing him special privileges that most didn’t get. He had a dream, and he was going to make it happen. He went through the school at an alarming rate and at the young age of 16 was able to live his dream.
Salem was the youngest research on the kingdoms team. The team mostly explored ruins, made notes based off prior found grimoires, scrolls and even carvings. As the years passed they finally decided to look into the magical creatures that seemed to roam the land and began to dissect them to see what they could find. Most of the researchers were disgusted in such dirty work and they all began to push it off on someone else. Eventually it was pushed off on Salem. His mind was completely for research, and eventually he gave in to the dissection of the creatures. At first it disgusted him, but he wanted to help the kingdom succeed, he wanted to make them and himself stronger. The tests became more brutal as they continued to force it on Salem as he was the only who could do it.
As those types of tests came to an end Salem had already began to crack. He had grown use to the dissections and had many ideas of his own. As the research team began to go back to ruins and grimoire research he brought his idea directly to the king. He stated that dissecting brought a lot of data that they could work with and because of that he had determined that he would be able to splice beings with other beings. In pride of his findings he expected the king to back him, except horror showed on his features as he denied the research and sent him back to the regular lab. For weeks he thought of his idea and remembered how the king looked at him with such disgust. He was wrong for denying him, there was much to learn from dissecting, but even more if they were to experiment. He finally gave in and began to make use of the jail cells under the castle. He started with creatures first, he would cut them open and try putting other organs, blood and magic enchanted things inside them and seeing how they would function, if it helped or hurt. For a year he got away with this without anyone knowing.
He grew interested in his findings and wanted to see if he could create something with a large mana pool, something that could handle more magic, more power. He would do it for his kingdom, even if they didn’t want him to. He knew what they needed and he would do this. At first he kidnapped a couple people from the prison cells, they were going to be killed anyways, why it would matter. Experiment after experiment failed as he couldn’t seem to make any of it work. He grew interested, was it because of the subject?
Interested in this ideal he kidnapped a random noble and tried his experiments and for the first time he saw things beginning to work, though right as it should have worked completely, the man died. Confused he didn’t get it, was he too old? Was his body incapable of handing it? Curiosity became obsession as he has decided on bringing his plan to the king and explaining that he needed to test on noble children. Before he was able to bring about that plan, he was caught. The knights of the kingdom tore into his home and kicked him out of the kingdom, telling him he was no longer able to live within those walls.
His life was shattered. His dream, his everything broken, and yet they didn’t understand his ideals, his dream, his want to make THEM stronger. Anger overtook him as he began to wander into the forest with his goals set even higher. He would go back to Milinia and he would test of those nobles, he just needed a way to do that.
A month had passed and he had managed to finish his venture through the forest and the ruins and found himself in Edowen. He entered Edowen, a bit worried at first, he had heard so much about it. No one seemed to care that there was a human in their midst. He wandered the kingdom learning it’s lay out and enjoying how carefree it was. People cared about themselves and didn’t really bother with anyone else unless it was for a fight. He ventured into the kingdoms tavern. He was spoken to by a woman, a noble, she seemed interested in the anger his eyes showed. She asked questions and he began to tell her of his story. His tale of Milinia and how he wished to make them stronger. Something seemed to click when he spoke of power. She grew interested and asked how one would go about his plans. As he explained everything to this woman she laughed and told him to come with her.
Salem found himself before the king of Edowen with this woman. He seemed bored as they approached, however his eyes fell on the woman, who walked with purpose. She spoke of his background, explained his research wants and his ideas to gain more power. The King finally seemed interested. After a long discussion the king offered him a job. He could be the kingdoms researcher, he would give him people to experiment on, even if they didn’t like it. In return, he had to destroy Milinia. Since Milinia had a barrier around it Edowen was never able to do anything with it. Salem agreed to it, in return the woman he had just met had to oversee and help with the funding, since she was a noble he figured it wouldn’t be a problem.
A couple weeks had passed and he stepped inside Milinia once more. He spent his time looking around. It didn’t take too long before he had everything set in place. That night fell as the chaos began. The entire kingdom was up in flames, there were giant creatures no one in the kingdom had ever seen trampling along the homes. Inside the castle, Salem slaughtered his way to the King and Queens room. As he entered the room it was told that he killed the King and Queen, took his young daughter and one other.
It is said, that after the destruction of Milinia, many children in nearby villages and bigger demons in the forest had vanished and was seen being dragged into Edowen. As the lead and only researcher in Edowen, he had much pull. His noble overseer was interested in the power he stated he could make, and helped in any way she could.
As time continued, his research lab that was in the forest was found by the King of Thiris, but that was just fine. Allowing his place to be seen sparked his reputation. Which was exactly as he wanted, then again, all his plans were laid in place. As his two experiments escaped he left to go back to Edowen and began his research a new. This time, experimenting with something more specific.
