The world had been evolving over the years, the forests were starting to have their own climate changes, and certain parts of the continent seemed almost alive. Monsters, creatures from the abyss seemed to rise out of these areas, seeming to tower over any civilization that was made.
Within the continent of Valein, there had only been three kingdoms able to stand against these changes, and continue to guard their lands : Grasmere, Aucteraden and Laythien.
The Kingdom of Grasmere, a poor village that existed in the middle of the desert. It was once a prosperous kingdom with crops, forestry, and treasures. With the sudden climate, change they found themselves in what seemed an endless drought and over the years, the land hand turned to sand. The rising heat was a horrid problem for them and they found themselves having to dispose of their gorgeous wooden homes and go with clay or mud huts simply due to the fact they wouldn’t catch on fire.It didn’t take long before the beasts in the area began to haunt their existence, slowly the civilization moved further, and further south until they could see the ocean. If things continued as they were, surely they would be forced to flee to the ocean or die in the hands of the creatures that lived there.
The Kingdom of Aucteraden, a place never seen, but told in myths and legends. Aucteraden is said to exist deep in the northern mountains, through rumors say it’s encased in snow. The only people that know anything about the truths of these claims, or what lives in Aucteraden, would be the elves. Long ago when Laythien was formed, it was any form of elf, but unfortunately the racism stated and the dark elves, or drow were pushed out of their kingdom, forced to wander. The elves believe that Aucteraden may be where the drow wandered off to, but there is little known about the kingdom, or if it even exists.
The Kingdom of Laythien has been around the longest out of all the kingdoms, originally the elves from Laythien came over from another continent, after being driven out from their original homeland. The continent was a rich forest area, blooming with life. Excited with their find, they set up a kingdom along the ocean and in the forest, becoming known as Laythien. As the continent began to change, the temperature towards the south changed the forest into a tropical climate, making it a rainforest. Though the north remained a simple forest; however, both had creatures from horrid nightmares. The elven oracle at the time, predicted that a great curse fell over the land and until the cause of that curse had been destroyed, there would be no way to fix the land. As time went on, Laythien made a pact with some pirates, establishing a harbor, allowed those from other continents to come over and frequent their city. The people hoped that they may find some heroes, heroes that could finally rid them of the curse, but so far, they had been surviving.
With the new reign of Queen Velannya Laythien, many things had changed. The new Queen decided to make a bounty guild in order to attract more adventures; her main hope was to clear out the forest near her kingdom, to make it safer for her people. With the new Queen at the throne, there was a rising hope within the confines of the city. As years continued and the Queen began to age, her daughter, heir to the throne, unfortunately went missing. This created a perilous situation, though reports state she was last seen with a mysterious man escaping the castle. Laythien’s top guards found their princess later on, rumors claim she has been asleep for a year now. Despite best efforts, no one has been able to wake her up, even the best healers and medicine men are unable to cure her of her ailment.
Within the last couple of years, the creatures which have come to pose a threat to the land, seem to be getting bigger, and the mention of the bounties of Laythien had spread. Grasmere has now sent a messenger to arrive in Laythien in a matter of days, and boy do they have some work for them. The messenger will report directly to the bounty guild, and from there they will give it to the proper rank. The north has seemed overrun with creatures, but most villages in that area have begun evacuating towards Laythien, creating many territories which monsters have come to move into. Bounty and requests missions have been popping up very frequently; the guild almost has too much now. What is causing this chaos to ensue the land?
