on a side note, I kind of forgot about this, so to continue…
The rest of the night was silent, he did not say another word but I stared at him for a while. He was the first to call me stupid; I did not know how to take it. Me, stupid? Eventually I fell asleep again my fatigue taking back over. I woke in a panic as I heard a noise. That was the sound of the royal army. Panicking I turned seeing him asleep. “Wake up” I demanded being loud as I got to my feet grabbing my sword. I moved hoping he’d get up in time as I yanked on the wooden door lifting it up to see the stairs leading downwards. The moment I lifted it he was standing beside me looking at me with his ever-heavy gaze. My face flushed for some reason but I heard the horns again. Panic flooded, I did not want to go home! I grabbed his hand ignoring how sudden this was before pulling him down the stairs with me. We ran fast all but stumbling down the stairs as I slammed into the door at the bottom. As it opened there was some form of hallway but I didn’t slow down I kept dragging him, torches lit up as we ran passing through more and more hallways until finally I finally slowed panting heavily.
For a moment there was silent as we both stood there gasping for air. His voice interrupted my thoughts. “You’re still holding my hand”
My eyes widened as I turned to look at him my face bright red as I all but threw his hand to the side. “S-sorry” I sighed seeming flustered as we both stayed silent for a moment before I finally turned to look at him and extended my hand. “My name is Catlyn, what’s your name?”
He stared at my hand for a long while before shaking his head and pushing my hand away. “Mark”
I smiled at him as I let my hand fall to my side. “I owe you for saving me-“I went to continue but instead he simply turned and started walking off. Not wanting to be left behind I ran after him. Most of our journey was silent as we wandered down what seemed to be a maze. Finally, my silence grew short as I stared at the back of him. “Why did you save me?” I asked him curiously.
He did not stop as he turned down another corner. It seemed like he was not going to answer for a bit before he sighed, “you would have died,” he stated simply before coming to another four way and sighing in annoyance.
I stayed silent again, it seemed like I annoyed him. I did not like the idea of annoying him so I stayed silent and waited for him to move. Eventually we stopped as he sat down at the end of a hall as I glanced around. “It seems like a maze.” I pointed out which only managed to get a grunt from him. I had pointed out the obvious. Sighing I shook my head as he began to pull some food out of his backpack. My body hurt a bit, as I looked at him and walked passed a bit. “I’ll be right back” I was not sure if he cared or not but I walked around the corner making sure not to stray too far before attempting to pull down my pants. With no time, at all I felt hot breath on me as I turned to look over and let out a scream. Quickly pulling up my pants, I stumbled back reaching for my sword. Before me stood a giant Minotaur as it stomped a bit before rushing at me. At first, I stared at it as a deer in headlights as it closed in at me. Before it was able to hit me, I was tackled to the ground as mark had managed to knock me out of the way. I was stunned seeing a creature like that. Before I even had a chance, he took my sword, jumped up, and turned towards the Minotaur. I was not able to do anything as he faced off against the Minotaur. Too much of my amazement, he was able to dart around the creature before slashing at its legs causing it to collapse against the ground. He moved quickly before slashing at its neck causing its blood to spray along the wall.
I sat there terrified and useless as mark moved towards me slowly. He extended a hand as he smiled lightly at me. “You okay?”
The shock must have been noticeable as I took his hand feeling him pull me up but I was too scared, I fell against him. The moment my check pressed against his chest, I burst into tears. It was as if he was not expecting that as he stood there letting me cry on him before he moved his arms around me. “It’ll be okay…I won’t let you get hurt.” His voice was soft but his care was genuine.
I cried against him for a while until I calmed down. I looked up at him with tear-stained cheeks and smiled lightly. “Thank you Mark.”
Too much as my surprise, it seemed as if I had passed out or something. I was back in my room as if nothing had happened. I had all my memories of mark and the short time we had together but it was as if it was a dream. Was it?
