The town was bustling with all the new players. It was amazing to see just how many there were. Oddly enough, there wasn’t any channels or extra severs, this was an entire worlds gaming population on just one server. It was simply amazing. While everyone was learning about the game, it finally got around to the grand opening. The teleportation crystal glowed a bright purple and pulsed causing a low hum to spread through town. The towns went silent as a rather jolly looking figure appeared above it seeming to float above them all. They raised their hands as each player would feel a faint warmth and would simply be teleported to the center of town if they weren’t already here. “Hello and Welcome to Delve Online! My name is Gesshin Hiroshi and I am the sole creator of this game. For years I strived to make the virtual reality we all wished for.” The man spread his arms “and before you is my work. My years of perseverance! It lies before you all in glorious splendor for all to enjoy! The idea is to get to the top of the tower to receive a prize-“the voice cut short as the avatar seemed to stay in the same place.
The voice that echoed across the whole world gasped. “What, who is it, who’s there!?” it was a more panicked voice. The male’s voice seemed quite young and noticeably afraid. The sky above darkened as a scream echoed. It echoed so loudly it seemed like a high pitch squeal. The avatar above jerked abnormally as the sky and atmosphere seemed dark. Thunder clapped in the background as lightning surged around the twisting avatar before a low cackle slipped from behind the mask.
“Hello…” the word slipped out from between the mad cackling. “ Today you all entered this world” it started with a higher pitched voice the avatar’s body seemed to straighten itself to a more normal stance. “In hopes of escaping reality. Well my friends, I have done you all one better!” the cackling started once more. “You can’t escape now. If you were to open your menus, you would see that the help button is greyed out. If you were to try to log off, well…” the avatar bent towards the crowd of people causing some of its bones to crack. “You would die.” The cackle slipped out once more as the people began to chatter and look for the log out button, but alas, it wasn’t there.
“Now, now, don’t worry all, I’ll explain. This is no longer Hiroshi talking, in fact, he’s dead. The stupid man thought he could run it all himself, well now it’s his downfall. Therefore, here’s the deal folks. If you take off your headsets, you die. If you try to log out, you’ll die. If someone in the real world tries to take off your headset or disconnect you from the game in anyway, you’ll die. “they paused and tapped their fingers on their mask. “Oh right, there will be no more respawning. You know what that means?” they paused to hear some panicked chatter. “That’s right! If you die in the game you will die in real life!” their cackle rang out across floor one.
This time the crowd of players freaked out. Some started crying, others screaming as it clicked in their brains. “Let me explain the rules of this fun little game.” The man spoke once more making sure their voice echoed loud enough for everyone to hear. “There are 100 floors to this game. If someone or multiple people reach that, floor and manage to beat the boss at the very top. I will let everyone go, and don’t think that there is some way for people to save you, we’ve been preparing for many many years, it will take even the best of hackers years to break through, but that’s okay because most are in this game!” he chuckled once more. “So here’s the rules folks. If you die, you die for good. You can choose to live your lives here on this little floor all nice and safe, but you will be stuck here, permanently until someone clears that floor 100 boss. That being said, all of your EXP has been reset, your levels have been reset, your gems have been set to zero so I hope you bought your things! All you have on your is your equipment and your inventory!” He paused for a moment. “Also, me and my other hackers will be around the game. We’ll be watching, and we’ll look just like you. Perfectly normal names, we’ll even look normal and act normal. You never know how many of us there are or where we will be. What can we do? Well wouldn’t you like to know.”He chuckled one last time.
“We are Sin and welcome to your new reality”
