Yu had managed to part from people talking to her quite a while ago. Now that she had achieved the closest to silence that she could possibly get, she had taken the time to wander around town. She had a good understanding of the town layout now. Pleased with this information, she began to talk to some of the NPC vendors, checking to see what all they had so she could remember it for later should she need to. This game made her think it would rely quite a bit on memory. Knowing what to do, where to go, who had what, what would be effective. Perhaps she was overthinking everything.
Too much of her surprise, a booming female voice explained the basic of the menu and some necessary information. Thankfully, since she had already wandered over to the adventure’s guild earlier so this was all just review, which was still good for her. Smiling at her correct knowledge, she would nod every so often when the booming voice confirmed her thoughts. Good.
The voice finally explained everything that she seemed to want to. Well all there would be now would be to go and start grinding. Turning on her heels, she walked through one of the exits into the plains. Yu could spot the ram before her, right as she was about to try to figure out combat first hand, she felt herself get a bit dizzy. Stumbling back, her body grew warm as the world around her seemed to warp and suddenly she was standing back before the teleportation crystal in the main city.
Yu blinked. Was she just teleported? Well that was jarring. Another voice caught her attention as she followed it to see a rather chipper masked man claiming to be the game developer. Smiling a bit, she was happy to see how determined he was to enjoy his own game, it was nice. He went to brag though it got strange. He seemed panicked, was this part of an act? She stayed focused on the man claiming to be the creator. What was he doing? A scream echoed through the game, it was so loud she found herself covering her ears. It physically hurt. After the scream finally left, she moved her hands down and found it now replaced with laughter.
Irritation quickly spread over her feature. “What the hell is so damned funny!” she yelled almost immediately at the man. It didn’t take long before the man finally said help and started talking oddly; the voice was off from before. He rambled on about why people joined the game, she was getting annoyed, and who cared? The next statement he said caused her to feel cold.
‘If you were to try to log off, well, you would die.”
“What?!” she yelled immediately and quickly pulled up her menu looking for the backup log out button which was gone. Turning to look around at the crowd, she noticed one pink haired girl trying to use the voice command, it didn’t work. The hell!?
The man stated that the creator was dead and started to explain just how serious this all was. There was no way this wasn’t real. She quickly moved her hands to head trying to feel for the headset, but there was no connection. In the game, she couldn’t feel herself outside the game. “Dammit!” she growled angrily as he stated all the ways they could die. This could not be happening.
Yu’s panic was only getting worse as the man talked. They couldn’t leave until someone killed the boss on the top floor. “Bullshit!” she yelled immediately. “Come down here and fight us!” she spat out, only to hear someone beside her get angry.
“Are you stupid? They would just slaughter us! They’re a hacker! They probably could one shot us!”
“It’s better than just standing here and playing their game!” she yelled but was immediately met with a fist to the face from some other random person in the crowd. Stumbling backwards she found her face aching. It was just like in real life. Panic set in. “That… hurt…,” she muttered. The punch actually hurt. Moving her hand up to the blindfold, she quickly ripped it off and looked around with her pale blue eyes at the crowd. There were people crying, screaming, fainting, and literally losing their sanity. “This… isn’t real”
“You could have gotten us all killed!” the man that punched her yelled grabbing her neck and pulling her close. “What if he came down here? Did you hear him, if you die that’s it. You could have killed everyone because of your stupid comment!”
Her eyes widened as she stared at the man seemingly in shock now. “But… it’s just a game” she muttered.
“No it isn’t, you retard! It isn’t anymore. This is just like real life! Things hurt, you can die! Didn’t you listen?”
“But…” all the anger, irritation and her entire guise fell away. “ I don’t want to die….” Her voice was all but silent, as she, knees grew weak as she felt herself slowly falling towards the ground. The man almost immediately let her go as they stalked away. She sat on the floor paled but the realization of it all. “I didn’t want this…” her voice was barely audible as she shook trying to get to her feet and quickly sprinted off, shoving people out of the way before quickly running into an alleyway and immediately fell to her knees and starting crying pathetically.
“Brother… brother I need you…” she sobbed shoving her back against the wall and bringing her knees up to chest and shoving her face against her knees. “ Alex! I’m scared, where are you…,” she sobbed uncontrollably. “I… I miss you… save me…”
She stayed there sobbing for quite a while before she peaked out from behind her knees and waved her hand before her. The menu appeared showing the help button locked now. Clicking on the profile button she noticed all of her gems were gone now just as the man stated. Backing out of that, she clicked on inventory and saw all the things she previously had was still there. She slowly lowered her head back to her knees with a soft sob. “It’s all gone, and I’m next…”
