My muse and I were talking about trying to reignite my old story. I was trying to envision what he looked like, however my muse found the left picture and I created the right.
Light filtered between the clouds above, heavy with their moisture, and lingering slowly in the blue sky. Daybreak had just begun as the gates of Volos began to open as the creaking of the door echoed through the empty streets. Click click click Thunk! The doors hit their end causing the loud sound to echo through the silence as if the bell of the town had run. Behind the castle, a loud roar sounded, and just like clockwork, the doors of the homes below opened and peasants began to funnel to work.
Volos was a rather busy town, it always had new merchants setting up in merchant circe. On Top of that, it was a high population kingdom to begin with, since everyone was allowed in with little prejudice. The chatter of the townspeople rose as it slowly made the sounds of the kingdom lively and cherry. People went to work, the shops around town opened their doors and began to open shop. People went about their daily routines. All was well in the kingdom of Volos.
Though it acted like any other day, today was special, the gates to the noble quarters swung open as banners seemed to spring up out of no where. Today was the day of the dragon knight certification test. Those with marks of dragons and those looking to receive marks would travel far and wide to get here today. Those who had neither may come to watch in the stands out of interest, or possibly ill intent. It’s common for hunters to sneak their way in to check out the competition. It is said some of the participants of this test normally come in a disguise hoping to not be targeted, while others are more than ready for the fight.
The examination will begin in 30 minutes. The top knights will gather above in the kings podium which spans 15 feet wide and will have more than enough seating for the four knights. Below in the main area, stands a woman with short white hair. Her golden gaze peers off towards the entrance gate. By her stance and her overall presence within the arena it’s obvious she is the instructor.
Info: “I wouldn’t know if I have any brothers or sisters, but my mother and any related family are dead.”
Profession: “Doesn’t matter”
Bio: “Growing up as the princess of Angrozan wasn’t as nice as most would think. I was constantly berated by the thought of being perfect, being effective enough to take over the throne, being better than my father. My mother was a rather simple woman, sure she was beautiful but that’s to be expected as the chosen Queen. Her intelligence was higher than most and she was very well acquainted with other customs. She helped me study all the courses my father wished me to take. She was constantly there, watching me, waiting for me to need the help, almost as if she was waiting for me to fail…
My Father and I weren’t ever really close, how could I be close to something I never saw? I was his only daughter and he had no time for such issues, he just needed an heir, nothing more, nothing less. My mother was told to always take care of me, she never had a moment she was allowed to leave my side, I saw it grating on her conscious when I was little. I use to tell her she didn’t need to watch me as I did my studies, didn’t need to sit with me during my meals, and didn’t need to stay with me while I slept.
When I was younger, I didn’t really have a concept of what was going on. I figured my mother was like this because all mother were. There was a short time period, where I finally had enough of the studying and slipped away to use the bathroom, and I escaped through the window. I finally got out into the real world. I wanted to see everything, I wanted to see my people, but what I saw was not that of fairy tales. The kingdom of Angrozan was fairly new at the time, my father’s rule wasn’t very strong, he was lax with the laws he placed because he didn’t’ care enough. When I stepped foot into the streets outside the window, I never expected to find a corpse. It was revolting at the time. I didn’t even know what to think of it. I was stunned, staring at the lifeless corpse of what appeared to be a beastkin. Looking at their skin it was obvious their death was drawn out far longer than it needed to be, but why? I remember my thoughts racing to what the man could have done to get this treatment. I stood there for far longer than I should have, my mother had found me standing out there staring at the body and immediately backhanded me. She had yelled at me for escaping and how I wasn’t allowed to leave, just like her. I remember my confusion as I went to look at her, but instead she grabbed my face and forced me to look at the body. She kept yelling this was everyone’s fate, this is what would happen and soon we would relish in the pain and suffering of others. My life had shattered as the corpse caught on fire, and I was forced to watch.
I finally reached the age of 12, my studies of literature, customs and history had ended, now it was all about battle. Father was very specific with this, so much so he had even managed to show me what he looked like after 11 years. It was.. An experience to say the least. The “training” as he so called it, was unrelenting, he never once went easy on me. For a while I was sure I was just the toy he took his anger out on, until one day, I managed to take him by surprised. He was pleased.
My life after that was thrown into shadows as he sent me on little missions to dull my senses to murder.First it was criminals, they would die eventually, then it was those who opposed him. Lastly, it was my mother. I was so dulled to it all that I didn’t even realize who I was killing, I probably should have, but I didn’t. Not until her lifeless corpse hit the ground. Realization was a bitch. I wasn’t happy about it. I went to yell at my father for such a ridiculous contract but he only laughed at me. I attempted a few other times to persuade my father that what he did was wrong, but he never once budged.
Finally I slipped back out of the castle and looked around at our kingdom. I learned of the type of man my father was and what he did to his people. I hated it. Then again the other kingdoms weren’t better. My last confrontation with my father ended poorly and I left the kingdom.
I have a newfound mission. Stay vanished from Angrozan as the princess, and stop all of this. I’ll destroy it all, and force it all to start over, and if that didn’t work, I’ll tear down the kingdoms my own way.”

Lucian and Jorig decided to spread what had happened, in terms of their contract, they did more research on it to figure out how it happened. Finding out how it happened didn’t take too long, though they didn’t really understand why. On top of that, Lucian realized if he ingested some of Jorig’s blood it made him strong and made their bond stronger. Pleased with this information Lucian went south in the continent and created Volos, the dragon kingdom, where contracts could be made with dragons to strengthen their culture and their wills.
Due to the long struggle of the population while dragons wandered the land, the people split. Those that decided to give the dragons a chance went to the new kingdom of Volos with Lucian. Those that were angry by the losses caused by the dragons went with Lucian’s brother, Michael, who decided to create Sanctum Terra. The halfbreeds, demons, and elves went with their own races to create their own kingdoms of Mylannor for the elves, Kibia for the halfbreeds and Angrozan for the demons.
Tensions would remain high between Volos and Sanctum Terra, many a war would be wages with little to show for either side. As the years went on the kingdom of Volos perfected their contracting method to dragons and began to train people to do so, creating the perfect soldier and the perfect peace between dragon and human [?]. The dragon knight.
Many years have passed since then, two wars have been wages and had no resolution and only two destroyed kingdoms to show for it. The next wave of dragon knights will rise and take their certification test in Volos. They will attempt to contract with the wyrms, wyverns and dragons of the world, but deep in the outskirts, in the other kingdoms, those with hatred, bitterness or other plans will contracts with other creatures, becoming dragon hunters much like Lucian did all those years ago.
Rise and contract, with what, you decide.
Long ago when the world was young, all races lived among the land in tribes and small villages. There was very little war during this time, most of the villages were busy maintaining their way of life to care about wars, but there were some over land ownership. While there were many villages and people living within the forests and off the land, there was a larger predator. Dragons. The dragons roamed the land from above and sometimes below. The land was theirs and they did with it as they pleased. The dragons were here long before anything else. Many villages, people and the like were killed by dragons. It was very common to find people who had many past villages because they had to keep moving due to dragon attacks. It was seen as a stupid idea to build a large fortress or any form of a larger structure because it would attract attention.
The elder dragon, Jorig, was a monster of a dragon. Most say he’s almost half the size of the continent himself, and he very much disliked civilization built on his land, so he destroyed everything he could. This was his land. As per normal, he destroyed yet another village, but what he wasn’t expecting was the lone survivor of this destroyed village to hunt him.
Lucian, was a rather young man and he had been out on a hunting trip for his village. When he returned he came back to the ashes of his village. Angered by the dragon taking away his home and family, he vowed to take down the creature. It is said that the anger and bitterness in Lucian’s heart called deep into the darkness to a rather strong demon, who offered him a deal. They would give him unlimited power, however, when his task was finished, he would give the demon his life. It was a simple request to Lucian, so he immediately accepted. With the newfound power, Lucian began his journey as the first dragon hunter.
Many years passed before Lucian had managed to catch Jorig not only on the ground, but also alone. A battle ensued between dragon and dragon hunter causing much of the surrounding land to be scorched. The battle was seen by no one, but the legend says that Jorig killed Lucian’s contracted demon and was about to kill Lucian, when the demon decided to cast one last spell, binding Jorig and Lucian together. Smug with this newfound situation, Lucian told Jorig that he could kill himself and there would be no more to his life. The elder dragon didn’t want to die so early and wasn’t sure how to break the bond. Jorig was both angry and amazed he had been beat, though, he was curious what drove this man to do so much more than anyone else. Every other creature just screamed and ran away. From this point on Lucian and Jorig were contracted and there was nothing either could do about it, so they had no choice but to get along. Thus causing Lucian to become the first dragon knight.
