The Bloody Gale was a rather large ship with a darker wood than most, almost black. The crew was full of scraggly men that moved awkwardly fast. Down below the deck was the storage area, which had many cloth sacks for storage and giant barrels of liquid. There was a hall towards the front of the ship which was the brig which housed a bunch of women and her moth. The hall towards the back was the captain quarters. The floor in the brig seemed a rich black color as if stained with something. The metal bars were rusted but still sturdy. Back on deck the sails were a dingy beige, they must have been white once before, there were tears along the edges causing them to fray in the ever constant wind.
Being a child she found herself looking at the captain as her father figure. As most girls do, they like to make their fathers happy. He was very into having her meet the inhabitants of islands they went to. She would run off onto the islands wherever they landed and talk to a couple people. An hour or two would pass while she would talk to some people in the village, then the crew and her father would show up and ask her to go back to the ship. That’s how it always went, and to her, there was nothing weird about it.
For many years she went along with it, never knowing what happened to the villagers she led to the crew, but they always seemed to vanish. When she asked her mother, she always had such a sad expression, but told her that everything would be okay.
A couple women were down in the brig. They never were able to leave there unless pulled into a special room in the back, but they were always shaky and quiet after. Abygale didn’t understand much that was going on, but they allowed her to wander around the ship, but she was never allowed to go in the back room by the brig and she wasn’t allowed the captain’s quarters. The crew seemed a bit awkward around her, they were always smiling and bit too wide and complaining about hunger, but they never did anything to her.
They found a new little village, and as per normal the crew went and looked around it seeming to check out the area. Per normal, the captain found Abygale and pat her on the head, as he always did. To Aby, he was her father. True or not. He told her she was going to have another important mission for them, her eyes were sparkle with interest as he told her this village would be very kind to her and probably give her sweets. Excited at being able to have such things she waited for the rest of it, but he just smiled and told her to have a good time.
Little Aby went into the little village and found it full of mother and children. Just as her father had said, they treated her kindly and even gave her something called a sweet bun. It was the first time she had something so fresh, it almost made her cry. As the day was coming to an end, she heard a scream as the door to the hut she was in with the village was being kicked down by the crew she called family. They began to pull the woman out by the hair, the children being kicked around like luggage. Aby felt a hand pull her back as she noticed her father’s red eyes shining brightly as he looked at the village she was spending time with. He told her to go back to the ship. She didn’t understand, she stood there watching as the crew ripped the clothes from the women. This terrified the little girl, if that weren’t enough she watched as they began to rip into the women’s skin causing blood to splatter. A sharp pain hit the back of her head as she collapsed to the ground blacking out.
When Aby woke up she found herself in the storage room. She felt herself moving, slowly as her eyes opened to find herself looking at the room she had spent many a night in. Slowly her gaze turned to look to her right, there were many wooden barrels, they all seemed to be pushed together and tied down to make sure they didn’t slide anywhere. Turning to her right her eyes locked on a heap, it looked a lot like a cloth sack. Squinting her eyes, her steps were slow and a bit shaky as she neared it. There was an odd smell of something foul, maybe rotten? This wasn’t something she had seen before, normally they were always out of supplies and food. Now standing in front of the cloth sack, her hand moved and tugged at the top of the sack. The tie came loose rather quickly as it gaped open letting out a horrid smell. Her eyes met with another set of dull lifeless eyes. Her eyes widened as she stared into them for a long moment as if the moment itself hadn’t registered. Slowly her eyes moved along the facial features until shock set it. That was… the woman who fed her in that village! Turning on her heels, she ran directly towards the brig as tears streamed down her cheeks. Stumbling down the shaky hallway tripped falling before the bars.
“Momma! There was a village and they-“ her eyes lifted seeing blood splattered along the floor of the brig and a trail running into the back room she was never allowed into. Her skin paled as she grabbed onto one of the bars and shakily lifted herself up to her feet as she heard an odd sound. “Momma?” she called curiously. Walking slowly towards the door, her hand reached out towards it as she slowly pulled the door back a little. Her eyes peeked in, seeing a figure hunger over with wet crunching sounds being the only thing she could hear. Squinting her eyes adjusted to the light as they caught on the face of the figure seeing the captain, her father. There was blood along the ground around him, her eyes widened as she noticed her was pulling flesh off of an arm, but not any arm. Her mother’s!
Shock set in as she turned and ran, running to the one place he wouldn’t find her, for now. She ran through the storage room and down the little hall and shoved open the door to the captains quarters. Since he was in that room, he couldn’t be here. Scared she looked around for a place to hide, and found a trunk that was behind his desk. The top was decorative, with odd symbols, but in a brilliant silver and gold mix. Her fingers brushed along it for a moment as if entranced. Snapping back to her gaze began to burn, she didn’t know what to do. They were eating people, they… they were monsters! Her mother was gone and… and…
“Afraid little girl?” a deep voice whispered in her ear, it was warm and seemed amused.
Little Aby turned around looking around the room wondering what it was she was hearing. There was nothing in the room she could see. “Wh-who are you?” Her voice shook as she continued to look around scared that something else would happen.
The voice seemed to echo around her. “Living with cannibals, men who each other humans. You’ve helped them kill and eat so many villages child. It seems like your own mother has now become a meal to those gluttonous men.”
Her eyes widened. The villagers she led… she spoke to. They ate all of them! “No… no…” she shook falling to her knees as tears fell along the ground. “I didn’t…” Her hands tangled into her hair and pushed along her face as she sobbed. “No…”
“Do you feel angry at them little one? Would you like them to know what it’s like?” the voice spoke lowly as it seemed to grow louder. “Would you like them punished?”
“I…” she shook lightly and slowly rose her chin. “I wanted to save momma… but now she’s gone…”
The voice chuckled. “I will make you a deal little one. Pull one last trick, in return I’ll give you the power you crave to never let anyone get hurt again. In return, I will make these men reap what they sow.”
The little girl glanced around and turned to look at the chest and placed her hand out feel warmth, even though it looked like her hand was just in the air. She nodded slowly. After a while, she managed to leave the captain’s quarters and was up on deck as she normally was. All the crewmen seemed more happy than normal. Her eyes were a pale green as they always had been, she slowly walked down to brig where she was now alone. Her head tilted to the side as her mind seemed to be a bit lost. Inhaling slowly she let out an ear shattering shriek and spun collapsing onto the floor allowing herself to be face down.
The sound of feet smacking along the ground came rushing at her, of course they would, and they wouldn’t lose their bait. Just as planned almost all of them gathered. She heard the captain mutter something but right as he did there was the sound of bones breaking followed by a loud growl. The captain dropped her as he spun around to come face to face with his worst nightmare. A giant shroud seemed to be before them. None of that crew would even get to see his shape, his appearance, none of it.
Time had passed, she had been counting the seconds as told as the sound of screaming and bones popping and shattering was easily heard. The smell of blood and rot tainted the air. “500” she stated dully as she picked herself up off the ground and slowly turned around. Too much of her surprise there wasn’t a single corpse on the ground, just little splotches of blood along the wood. Her green eyes lifted to come face to face with the demon that had caused this all. Looking before her she was shocked to find it was very human to her, nonetheless it was a boy. Her eyes widened at the sight of something so normal looking. He was wearing something that looked very royal in its clothing, she knew those terms thanks to the books her mother had shown her. That thought made her cringe. Her mother was gone now. Her lower lip quivered for a moment as she took a step towards the demon man. “What can I call you?” her eyes were shining brightly as if she was about to cry as she looked up at him.
The man smiled and took a step forward placing his hand on her head. “Gluttony.” The man said softly seeming to be rather pleased with his meal. He took another step forward and placed on hand along her chest and the other hand moved quickly to grab her hand. “A contract will be formed out of my gluttonous want, you have upheld your end of the bargain and I as well will uphold mine.” His nails dug into her hand forcing her she cringe as blood dripped along the ground. His hand pushed hand along her chest. “Today, you will restart your life anew.” A searing pain shot through her body as his hand seemed to all but burn into her chest. Her body tensed feeling her blood boil as the man began to smile. “We will meet again contracted witch. For now, survive and grow strong.” With that the demon pushed her back causing her to immediately black out.
